The Triple Lock Standard

Building Trust and Confidence in Charities

The Triple Lock symbol highlights charities that uphold the highest standards of transparency, governance, and fundraising ethics. It ensures the public, donors, and beneficiaries can trust that these organisations operate with professionalism, integrity, and openness.

Charities achieving the Triple Lock Standard actively demonstrate their commitment to:

  1. Transparent Reporting
  2. Good Governance
  3. Ethical Fundraising

What Does the Triple Lock Mean?

1. Transparent Reporting

Charities meeting the Triple Lock standard prepare annual reports and financial statements in full compliance with the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice under FRS102). These reports are made publicly available on their websites, ensuring stakeholders can easily access and evaluate their financial accountability.

2. Good Governance

Charities with the Triple Lock have formally adopted the Charities Governance Code, as set out by the Charities Regulator. This means:

  • They comply with the six principles of good governance.
  • They meet the core governance standards, with additional standards for complex organisations if applicable.

This ensures a well-managed and accountable board that works effectively for the charity’s mission and beneficiaries.

3. Ethical Fundraising

Triple Lock charities commit to following best practices in fundraising as set out the Charities Regulator’s Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public. This ensures that donations are solicited and used responsibly, adhering to ethical guidelines and promoting trust between the organisation and its supporters.

Why is the Triple Lock Important?

For donors and supporters, the Triple Lock is a mark of trust. It reassures you that a charity operates at the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethics. By supporting a Triple Lock charity, you know your contribution is making a genuine impact in an organisation that is:

  • Professionally managed.
  • Open about its financial and operational practices.
  • Dedicated to delivering real value to its beneficiaries.
