About Us

Charities Institute Ireland (Cii) is the representative body for Ireland’s leading and high-impact fundraising charities. Our 280 members employ c. 25,000 people and represent 40% of the overall public funding provision within the charity and voluntary sector. Our aim is to promote greater transparency and impact for our sector through best practice in governance, fundraising, and financial standards. Our Triple Lock quality mark is recognised across the charity and corporate donor sector as the symbol of best practice.

The Vision for Charities Institute Ireland is:

An Ireland that trusts and values charities for the positive contribution they make to solving challenges in our society.

The Mission for Charities Institute Ireland is:

To provide leadership in the sector by empowering charities to maximise their impact, particularly through best practice in governance, finance and sustainable fundraising management.

At Cii, we envision an Ireland that trusts and values charities for the positive contribution they make to solving challenges in our society. Cii exists to support and enable charities to create positive social change. As an organisation, we work with our members to help them professionalise, sustain, grow, maximise their impact and improve the welfare of others. We provide educational programmes and resources for charities all across Ireland. Our goal is to help to amplify the voices of charities across Ireland and highlight the positive role they play in society. We promote the contribution of the sector and help build greater trust. We work with policy makers to create a more favourable environment to empower charities to deliver their missions. We want to develop a greater appreciation of charitable engagement in all forms.

Our History

Cii was formed in 2016 following the merger on ICTR and Fundraising Ireland, two key players in the non-profit sector, who combined to create a strong voice for high-impact fundraising charities, and the wider not-for-profit sector. Cii is focused on raising standards in the industry, enabling best practice fundraising education and development, and promoting greater transparency and integrity across the sector.
