GoFundMe, the world's leading crowdfunding platform, celebrates a significant milestone in Ireland today as it marks 5 million donations here equating to almost €250 million across Irish fundraisers. Ireland has also retained its status as the most generous country on the GoFundMe platform globally.
To commemorate this achievement, GoFundMe CEO, Tim Cadogan, shared insights into GoFundMe's impact in Ireland at an event in Dublin. The event's central theme, "5 Million Acts of Kindness," highlighted the remarkable journey of GoFundMe in Ireland as it marks this significant milestone - equating to one for every person in the country.
Tim spoke about the unique position Ireland holds where "community" is the top category on the GoFundMe platform. When it comes to generosity, Galway stands out as the most giving county in Ireland, closely followed by Limerick and Cork, based on the number of donations per capita on the GoFundMe platform. In 2022, Ireland maintained its reputation as the world's most generous country on GoFundMe for the fourth consecutive year, a testament to the nation's compassionate spirit.
Speaking at the event at Dublin’s Dylan Hotel, Tim said "Today, as we mark million acts of kindness in Ireland, I am profoundly moved by the generosity of the Irish bbc is going through as you know, what can I read people. As the most generous nation on GoFundMe, this highlights the spirit of compassion and community that defines this country. The power of crowdfunding has not only transformed individual lives but has also left an indelible mark on Ireland’s nation's heart as is testament to some of our campaign organisers who are here today.”
Tim highlighted an around 20% improvement in the effectiveness of crowd-funders thanks to GoFundMe's fundraising tools. He underscored the significance of security and safety, explaining how GoFundMe ensures the legitimacy of campaigns and safeguards donations, while also referencing current newsworthy events saying, "Our committed team continues to work diligently to prevent any misuse. Notably, GoFundMe takes pride in being the pioneer in the crowdfunding industry with the GoFundMe Giving Guarantee, providing donors with a full refund in case of any misuse."
In addition, Dr. Gemma Donnelly-Cox, Co-Director of the Centre for Social Innovation at Trinity College Business School, also shared insights at the event. She highlighted some of the reasons why Ireland is known for its generosity, stating, "Coming together swiftly to assist those around you ‘meitheal’ is core to Irish identity and sense of community. The quality of being 'first off the blocks' to give time and money, to respond to need, is reflected in how GoFundMe is used here. This spirit of community and rapid response underscores the unique generosity of Ireland on the GoFundMe platform."
In Ireland, dogs clearly reign supreme in popularity, as evidenced by the staggering statistics of 2022. During that year, almost €1 million euros was raised for pups. This generous support for our canine companions starkly contrasts with the just over €200,000 raised for fundraisers related to cats.
