Alzheimer's Memory Walk: Michele Ann Kelly, Payzone Ireland

Michele Ann Kelly's involvement with The Alzheimer Society is not just professional; it's a commitment to making a difference.

Michele, an accomplished musician, writer, and performer, has over two decades of experience in the arts, not-for-profit sectors, and commercial settings. Her diverse background has equipped her with a unique perspective on the challenges faced by various communities.

Michele has a personal connection to dementia; with a family member receiving dementia care for over seven years, Michele experienced firsthand the profound impact of the condition on loved ones: “When you see and feel the impact of dementia on a loved one, you are forever changed.”

This experience fostered a dedication to improving care and support for those affected by dementia. Her involvement with The ASI is not just professional; it's a heartfelt commitment to making a difference.

The union between Payzone Ireland and The ASI speaks to the power of collective action. Payzone's decision to choose The ASI as a Charity Partner was rooted in its commitment to causes that resonate with its employees, customers, and the wider community. Dementia, a condition that touches countless lives, was a clear choice for a partnership that aimed to create a lasting impact. Put simply, she says: “We asked our employees to vote for a cause that matters to them.”

The collaboration reflects Payzone's belief in contributing to societal well-being in areas that truly matter. The critical work carried out by The ASI in supporting individuals and families affected by dementia aligns seamlessly with Payzone's values, creating a partnership that goes beyond monetary contributions.

Memory Walk is more than just an event; it's a movement that brings people together to remember and celebrate loved ones impacted by dementia. Michele emphasises that the walk is a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by those living with dementia and their families: “Beyond fundraising, the event fosters a sense of community and solidarity, making it a deeply meaningful experience for participants.”

As Alzheimer’s  Memory Walk on September 24th approaches, Payzone employees are gearing up to participate in walks across various locations, including Dublin, Laois, Kildare, Wicklow, and Wexford. The diverse geographical spread of these walks mirrors the far-reaching impact of dementia on communities throughout Ireland.

Michele herself will be walking in honour of all those affected by dementia. Each step is weighted by personal experience and also represents the collective effort of Payzone employees, their families, and everyone else who has faced the challenges of this condition.

Michele is optimistic about the future of the partnership between Payzone Ireland and The ASI. The aim is for this partnership to continue growing, generating both funds and awareness to support ASI's vital dementia-specific services.

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk isn’t the only walk Michele is looking forward to; her heart is set on climbing Croagh Patrick in Co. Mayo and embarking on the transformative journey of the Camino de Santiago..

Payzone Ireland's partnership with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland stands as a testament to the impact organisations can have when they align their values with the needs of their communities. Through Memory Walk and beyond, Michele's personal and professional story reminds us that walking together, figuratively and literally, can create a world where compassion triumphs and meaningful change takes root.
