Women’s Aid–Allianz partnership focuses on healthy relationships ahead of Valentine’s Day

New research and practical tools highlight how everyone can play a role in promoting respect and preventing domestic abuse.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, a time when relationships are often in focus, Women’s Aid and Allianz Ireland are drawing attention to the importance of healthy, respectful relationships and to the ongoing issue of domestic abuse, including the need to prevent violence against women in Ireland.

As part of its ongoing partnership, Allianz continues to support Women’s Aid’s work to promote safer, healthier relationships and to provide practical resources and front-line services for women experiencing abuse. This includes the Ally Action List, a practical resource from Women’s Aid, developed with support from the Men’s Development Network, to support awareness and reflection around respectful behaviour and safety in relationships.

Research* undertaken as part of Allianz’ partnership with Women’s Aid reflects strong agreement among men in Ireland that violence against women is ‘unacceptable’, with nine-in-ten men agreeing that everyone has a responsibility to speak out against it.

Sarah Benson, CEO of Women’s Aid, said:

“Domestic abuse can affect every part of a woman’s life — her safety, health, independence and financial security. Our partnership with Allianz is grounded in a shared focus on protection and prevention, and on ensuring that women experiencing abuse know where to turn for help. Marking Valentine’s Day is about keeping attention on what healthy relationships should look like, and on the services that provide vital support when they are not.”

Phillip Gronemeyer, CEO of Allianz Ireland, said:

“Allianz Ireland has partnered with Women’s Aid since 2021 to support their work and the vital services they provide to women experiencing domestic abuse. Domestic abuse has a profound impact on women’s safety, stability and security. Our partnership with Women’s Aid backs practical work that helps women stay safe and rebuild their lives. The Ally Action List reflects that same thinking by encouraging reflection, responsibility and respect in real, everyday situations, without judgement or instruction. Our focus is on supporting Women’s Aid’s front-line services and ensuring that those who need help know where to find it. That is the basis of this partnership, and it remains our priority.”

The Ally Action List is available at womensaid.ie/men. If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please contact Women’s Aid 24hr National Freephone Helpline on 1800 341 900.
