Shared Island Leadership Forum Launches with Powerful First Gathering in Belfast

Shared Island Leadership Forum unites 50 charity leaders across Ireland for cross-border learning and collaboration on strategy, sustainability, talent, and impact.

Belfast, 16 May 2025 — Fifty senior charity leaders from across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland gathered in Belfast to mark the launch of the Shared Island Leadership Forum, a new initiative jointly presented by Charities Institute Ireland (Cii) and CO3 (Chief Officers 3rd Sector). The programme is proudly supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs under the Shared Island Civic Society Fund.

This unique leadership forum is designed to foster meaningful cross-border collaboration in the community and voluntary sector through four in-person learning events taking place in both Belfast and Dublin. The initiative aims to strengthen relationships, inspire fresh thinking, and enhance leadership capabilities across the sector.

The inaugural session, themed “Leading a Sustainable Future,” focused on strategies for maximising resources, diversifying income, and building resilient, forward-looking organisations. It featured an insightful economic overview by Brendan Mulgrew, a compelling keynote from internationally renowned sector strategist Alan Clayton, and a dynamic panel discussion with Peter Bryson, Conor Donnelly, Alex Bunting, and Graham Roe.

The day concluded with two practical and interactive workshops led by Jane Trenaman and Colin Skehan, who focused on innovative approaches to creating diversified income streams.

“It was an energising start to a forum built on connection, trust and shared purpose,” said one attendee. “The day brought new perspectives and practical tools we can take back to our organisations.”
