Gambling Bill – Do you fundraise using Raffles & Lotteries? Important Action needed this week!

Charities who fundraise using Raffles & Lotteries need to act this week: make a direct approach to TDs letting them know how the bill will affect your organisation.

The Gambling Regulation Bill goes to report stage in Dail Eireann on Wednesday next, 10th April and, if unchanged, will impact on Fundraising.

We support the Bill’s primary purpose, which is rightly focused on commercial gambling companies, but no consideration was given when drafting to the serious impact that it will have on fundraising – probably because most politicians, like most people, do not view charity raffles and lotteries as gambling.

In partnership with the GAA & Irish Federation of Sports, we wrote to the Minister for Justice to make our combined case.  But despite this, meeting the Minister of State and his officials and meeting politicians on the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, our concerns about the Bill’s impact on fundraising have not been accepted.

That is why we are asking you to make a direct approach this week to any TD with whom your organisation has a connection.   We’ve prepared this template for members to use so that action can be taken quickly.
