Barretstown Social Value Report

Barretstown marks 30 years of making a difference with the launch of a Social Value Report, providing a social value of €1.9 Billion since 1994.

Since 1994, Barretstown has been a sanctuary of hope and fun for children and young people facing serious illnesses across Ireland and the world. To mark 30 years of its work, Barretstown commissioned The Social Impact and Social Value of Barretstown 1994-2023  report which outlines the impact and value of their work helping seriously ill children to rebuild their confidence, independence, self-esteem and enhance their emotional wellbeing.

The report highlights the transformative effects of Barretstown's therapeutic recreation model and examines the ripple effects of Barretstown's work over three decades. The research, which drew from a diverse pool of stakeholders involving extensive consultations with over 1,500 individuals, underscores the profound societal resonance of Barretstown's mission.

Summary of Findings

  • Approx €145 million of money, in-kind resources and volunteer effort invested into Barretstown
  • 57,990 on-site campers
  • 48,003 programme participants in hospitals and schools
  • 11,049 virtual campers
