Irish Research Council enterprise programmes funding non-profit research

The IRC's Enterprise Partnership Schemes offer opportunities for non-profits to collaborate with early-career researchers.

The IRC’s Enterprise Partnership Schemes (Postgraduate & Postdoctoral) and Employment-Based Postgraduate Programme, which opened on 13 October 2022, offer opportunities for non-profits to collaborate with early-career researchers.

These programmes are unique national initiative linking excellent researchers in all disciplines to organisations with a similar interest, including non-profits. For non-profits, the enterprise programmes:

  • Offer excellent value for money (eligible non-profits can request a fee waiver for the first year of the EPS award), minimising risk and maximising shared benefits
  • Facilitate research and build capacity relevant to operational needs
  • Support exceptional researchers early in their careers, as well as supporting new innovative projects
  • Partner with cutting-edge researchers and institutions.
  • Develop new talent or upskill existing employees.

In the most recent call, more than €8 million in funding was shared among 79 projects. Approaches to reduce suicide among construction workers in Ireland; improving adolescent body image and mental health; low-income disabled artists' navigation of welfare and working lives; and the reality of controlling Covid-19 and other superbug infections in acute hospital settings were among the projects to be awarded funding.

You can find out more about applying for the programmes here, the calls close on 24 November 2022. Please contact Programme Manager Damien Henehan on dhenehan@research.ie if you have any questions.
