Around the World campaign round-up

‘Around the World’ was an exciting national fundraiser that took place in June, organised by in conjunction with Charities Institute Ireland. The virtual challenge was launched to help bring the non-profit sector together after what has been a very challenging period and provide an opportunity for charities to raise extra funds.

The aim of the challenge was to collectively cover 42,000km in just 24 hours – the distance it takes to travel the length of the globe. Fundraisers were asked to get out and get active on June 19th - 20th in any way they liked and then pledge the kms they covered to their chosen organisation. Those who signed up for the challenge via the campaign website had an iDonate fundraising page created for them automatically which they could then share with their supporters. Over 100 Irish charities signed up to take part in Around the World and those registered for the challenge received a full suite of resources, to support them in delivering their individual campaigns. Their toolkit included event logos, a range of social media graphics for each platform, social media post drafts, supporter email templates, website widgets, unique team URLs and more.

iDonate launched an extensive promotional campaign for the event which included sponsored widespread social media adverts and national press coverage. The event was covered by several national radio stations in the week leading up to the event, many of which interviewed members of the charity media panel. Coverage culminated with a Virgin Media Saturday News special, which provided a valuable PR opportunity for the charities highlighted. Sponsored Facebook adverts were shown onscreen almost 1 million times, with a total of 224,376 post engagements recorded. The campaign hashtag #doingittogether was used extensively across social media throughout May and June, as charities called fundraisers to action and provided updates for supporters.

Route progress and donations were tracked live on over the 24-hour period, with 58,000km completed and 80k raised in total by the end of the weekend. This was a huge success for iDonate’s first ever cross charity campaign, particularly given the current landscape and challenges it presents for fundraising.

As a result, iDonate and CII are already looking forward to next year’s campaign, which will build on the momentum of this collective effort. #Doingittogether was key to the success of this campaign so iDonate are hopeful that even more charities and clubs will come on board for next year’s fundraiser, to beat this year’s total and enable more charities to share in the success.
