Have I lost everyone already, did you just roll your eyes out loud? Think you’ve heard it all before. A vision is just a bunch of words strung together, isn’t it? So how important do you think it is to really connect with the vision for your organisation? Spoiler alert: it’s not just important; it’s essential. Here’s why connecting with your organisation's vision is the secret sauce to success.

1. Compass

Connecting with your organisation’s vision is like having a trusty compass. It provides direction and purpose, ensuring you’re not just aimlessly ploughing through tasks. When you understand the vision, you can see how your daily work contributes to the overall goals.

2. Decision Making

When you’re in tune with the organisation’s vision, you understand that you are not just another cog in the machine and you know the role that you play in driving the vision forward. You’ll be able to make better decisions on what you say yes and no to, how you use your resources to maximise impact and how to prioritise tasks more effectively as a result.

3. Belonging

Everyone wants to feel like they’re part of something bigger so encouraging collection connection with the organisation’s vision can foster a sense of belonging. It helps you understand how your role and that of others fits into the bigger picture, making you feel valued and an important part of the organisation. This sense of belonging can lead to greater job satisfaction and a team that is more engaged and motivated.

4. Collaboration and Teamwork

When everyone in the organisation is aligned with the same vision, collaboration becomes more natural and effective. Teams can work together more seamlessly because they share a common goal.

5. Fuelling Innovation and Creativity

Knowing the direction in which the organisation is headed can inspire innovative thinking and new ideas as when you know where you’re going, you’re more likely to find creative ways to get there.  Therefore a clear vision provides a framework within which innovation and creativity can flourish. It encourages employees to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions.

In Conclusion: Vision is the Secret Sauce

The organisational vision isn’t just a bunch of fancy words on a page; it’s the secret sauce that makes everything work. It is an anchor, a foundation. It guides you, motivates you, and connects you to a bigger purpose.

So when you find yourself in a session where the organisational vision is being explored, take the time to really connect with it. Does it inspire you, does it make you feel connected to the bigger picture, does it fuel your creativity, does it give your role purpose? If the answer is no, maybe its time to take a closer look at your organisational vision.
