Orbis Ireland, part of the global Orbis network, focuses on preventing and treating vision loss. With 90% of vision loss being preventable, Orbis Ireland works to build sustainable eye care systems, particularly in Ethiopia, which has the highest rate of Trachoma.

Since 2009, Orbis Ireland's Great Ethiopian Run has raised around €1 million. Each year, 40,000 participants, including 80 fundraisers for Orbis Ireland, take to the streets of Addis Ababa for Africa's biggest road race. The experience extends beyond the 10k run. Participants explore Addis Ababa and visit projects in southern Ethiopia, seeing firsthand the impact of their fundraising efforts.

Managing this event involves complex logistics, from travel and accommodation to event registration and fundraising. Enthuse technology streamlined this process for Orbis Ireland in 2023, offering a customisable event registration solution. This included capturing passport details, contact information, travel and accommodation preferences, and fundraising team assignments. Enthuse also automatically created fundraising pages for participants, simplifying the process and encouraging immediate engagement. This holistic approach allowed Orbis Ireland to track and manage the entire supporter journey seamlessly.

The 2023 Great Ethiopian Run campaign was a resounding success. Orbis Ireland raised €102,000 through Enthuse, plus an additional €52,000 offline, surpassing their fundraising target by 102%. The average donation was €81.46, and the average fundraising page value was €3,644, demonstrating strong donor engagement.Corporate partners like PwC, Airbus, and Avolon also participated, using the Enthuse platform to track their progress and foster friendly competition among fundraisers.

Orbis Ireland is already planning the 2024 Great Ethiopian Run, with an increased fundraising target of €260,000. This event exemplifies how combining a powerful fundraising event with effective digital tools can lead to outstanding results. "We’re pleased with the amount we’ve raised through Enthuse for our eye care projects in Ethiopia and hope to achieve an even bigger total for the 2024 trip to Ethiopia." Diane Weatherup, Development Director, Orbis Ireland
