Bullying at Work: How to Take Effective Action

Bullying in the workplace is on the rise, and the consequences can be severe. From psychiatric and personal injury claims to reputational damage and the erosion of organisational trust, the fallout can be significant and long-lasting.

Left unchallenged, workplace bullying can destroy an organisation from the inside out — undermining morale, reducing productivity, and seriously impacting employee wellbeing. Yet too often it goes unrecognised, normalised, or inadequately addressed.

This session, hosted by Insight HR’s Mary Cullen (Managing Director) and Rebecca Bowman (Head of Investigations), is tailored specifically for members of Charities Institute Ireland. Drawing on extensive experience supporting organisations through complex and sensitive cases, the session will explore:

• What constitutes workplace bullying and how it differs from other workplace conflict
• The psychological, organisational and legal risks of failing to act
• How to recognise early warning signs and patterns of behaviour
• Practical steps for responding to complaints in a fair, timely and effective way
• The role of policies, investigations and leadership behaviours
• How to build and sustain a culture of dignity, respect and psychological safety
• The session will be practical, experience-based and grounded in real-world examples relevant to the charity sector.

Sector Induction Workshop – Shaping a New Cii Programme

Starting a new role in a busy nonprofit can mean needing to hit the ground running, while quietly navigating unfamiliar language, structures, governance arrangements and ways of working.

Cii will shortly launch a new interactive half-day sector induction workshop, designed for people who are:

• New to the Irish nonprofit sector
• Moving from another sector into a charity or nonprofit role
• Transitioning into senior leadership or board positions

At this HR Network meeting, we will:

• Walk attendees through the proposed session structure and content
• Share the intended learning objectives and format
• Invite feedback from HR professionals to help shape and strengthen the programme

This discussion will help ensure the induction is practical, relevant and genuinely useful for those entering — and leading within — the charity sector.
