The Department of Rural and Community Development recently announced the publication of the Draft Charities Amendment Bill, which makes a number of amendments to the Charities Act 2009. It's vitally important that we represent the key concerns of our sector and this is our opportunity.
This proposed legislation will have a significant impact on our sector. It proposes a number of measures, including the inclusion of human rights as a charitable purpose, new duties and responsibilities of trustees, the statutory functions of the Charities Regulator and the establishment of the Charity Appeals Tribunal.
This briefing will provide some analysis from Cii and The Wheel on the Bill and its likely impact, followed by questions and comments from members of both organisations. We encourage members to submit questions or comments and have your say, as we are preparing a Joint Submission to the Oireachtas Committee with a deadline of Friday 1st July 2022.
