Garda Vetting is carried out by the National Vetting Bureau of An Garda Síochána. The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 provide a statutory basis for the vetting of anyone whose work or activity involves access to children or vulnerable adults.
Charities Institute Ireland consider a robust and fair national vetting system as an important tool in fostering trust by ensuring that the most vulnerable in our society are protected from harm.
In May 2021, Cii represented our members by engaging with the Department of Justice to highlight difficulties with the existing garda vetting process.
The Department of Justice took on board our representation and responded promptly by undertaking a complete review of vetting arrangements and legislation.
To communicate to our members progress on this review, Cii and Department of Justice will host a webinar on November 22 at 11am with an opportunity for Questions and Answers.
We hope you can join us for this important session.
