Our session will feature an engaging discussion led by Mairead Connolly, Not for Profit Tax Leader at PwC Ireland, and Joe Ahern, Tax Director at PwC Ireland. Together, they will provide practical guidance and insights on what they see in practical terms in the Not for Profit sector on:

Accounting for VAT on Income, and Services received from abroad

1. Overview of what types of income may fall within the VAT net and trigger a requirement for a charity to register for VAT, along with observations on their practical experience of same. 
2. When receiving services from abroad for business purposes, these in and of themselves may also trigger the requirement for charities to register and account for VAT in Ireland. This applies to services from both EU and non-EU countries, whereby charities may be considered the supplier of the services for VAT purposes and can therefore trigger an obligation to self-account for VAT on a revere charge basis. 
3. Key points include understanding the rules, thresholds (or lack thereof), and compliance requirements.

Finance Bill 2024

1. What does the Finance Bill 2024 mean for your charity? Gain insights into new measures and their potential impact on your tax exemption, including the expectation that monies raised will be utilised within 5 years. 

VAT Compensation Scheme for Charities

1. An overview of the VAT Compensation Scheme, which aims to reduce the VAT burden on charities and provide partial compensation for VAT paid.
2. We'll cover eligibility, timelines, and practical steps for claiming VAT back on qualifying expenditure from 2018 onward.

VAT on Property

1. A closer look at VAT considerations when charities acquire, lease/rent, or otherwise use or undertake works in relation to property, and what finance leaders need to know to remain compliant.
