Role and Responsibilities:

Pieta, Ireland's leading suicide and self-harm prevention organization, is seeking to appoint a Director of People and Culture to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire a dedicated team, driving positive change in an impactful, purpose-led environment.

At Pieta, our mission is to reduce suicide and self-harm, and to support those impacted by these crises. We are looking for a strategic and committed HR leader to implement and guide our people strategy and with the senior leadership team, build a workplace that embodies our values of care, compassion, and hope.

Role Overview:

The Director of People and Culture will report directly to the CEO and have overall responsibility for the development and delivery of key human resource strategies and policies across Pieta. This includes leading the delivery of the Pieta People Strategy, ensuring it is aligned with the organisation's values and mission, and fostering a culture of care and wellbeing.

As a member of the leadership team, you will be instrumental in driving the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring Pieta continues to evolve and develop in order to provide critical support to those in need. You will lead a dedicated HR team and provide expert guidance across all HR functions, including compliance, performance management, employee engagement, recruitment, wellbeing and staff communications.

People Strategy & Culture Development:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Pieta's People Strategy, ensuring alignment with our organisational values and strategic objectives.
  • Cultivate a positive, engaged, and values-driven organisational culture, fostering an environment where all staff feel supported, valued, and empowered to provide the highest level of performance and contribution to the organisation in serving our clients
  • Supporting managers across the organisation to lead and develop staff as the organisation develops and evolves
  • Champion initiatives to promote staff wellbeing, including Employee Assistance programs, health initiatives, and work-life balance efforts.
  • Ensure all people related policies and procedures evolve to ensure optimum compliance and best practice
  • Maintain and develop reporting structures that inform the organisation on all people related activities

 

Leadership & Employee Engagement:

  • Lead a high-performing HR team, promoting staff wellbeing, fostering leadership development, and creating a workplace where employees feel empowered, valued, and motivated.
  • Ensure that Pieta's leadership practices promote a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract, retain, and engage the best talent in the sector.

HR Operations & Compliance:

  • Oversee all HR functions, including resource planning, recruitment, learning and development, and performance management, ensuring compliance with best practices and relevant legislation.
  • Provide expert HR and employee relations guidance to managers and staff to ensure the effective resolution of issues and compliance with employment law.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, governance frameworks, and HR policies to ensure a compliant and supportive working environment.
  • Develop a suite of KPI's to allow oversight, assurance and insight reporting to the CEO and Pieta Board

Strategic HR Initiatives & Change Management:

  • Lead key strategic HR initiatives, such as succession planning, talent management frameworks, and staff development programs.
  • Provide high-quality HR support during organisational change projects, ensuring alignment with Pieta's overall goals and values.
  • Drive the execution of strategic HR plans to support the growth and sustainability of the organization.
  • Lead out on the Values in Action strategy support organisational wide cultural improvements.

Employee Relations:

  • Manage employee relations and employee relations issues at a strategic level, ensuring robust systems are in place to address concerns effectively and respectfully.
  • Ensure that HR practices support positive working relationships, promote a culture of respect, and encourage open communication across all teams.

Education, Skills, and Experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources with a minimum of 5 years in a senior HR leadership role
  • Experience working with diverse teams in an inclusive, evolving and developing working environment
  • Experience in recruitment, staff development, and conflict resolution, with a strong understanding of employee well-being in high-impact sectors
  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR best practices, and ethical guidelines
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organisation
  • High level of emotional intelligence and sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by staff working in suicide prevention and mental health services
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff, fostering an inclusive and compassionate work environment
  • Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills
  • A drive and commitment for supporting and developing people in a purpose-driven environment
