About the Cystic Fibrosis Ireland

Our organisation was established in 1963 to improve the treatment and facilities for people with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland. Cystic Fibrosis Ireland also co-operates with medical professionals to give maximum assistance to both parents and children/adults with Cystic Fibrosis.

We are supported by fundraising and voluntary contributions and are solely concerned with the wellbeing of people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Position Summary

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland are seeking to appoint a dynamic and strategic Chief Executive Officer to be responsible for providing visionary leadership and in the developments and effective operations in furthering the work of the organisation in a period of challenging change and opportunity for the CF community in Ireland. The CEO, reporting to the Board of Directors through the Chair will work closely and collaboratively with employees, people with CF, families, volunteers any other stakeholders as identified from time to time.

 

The ideal candidate should show an informed understanding of Cystic Fibrosis from a policy, research and advocacy perspective and be aware of recent advances in drug therapy. These advances in drug therapy convey a realistic possibility that a control for this disease is available to the majority of people with CF in Ireland. Our CEO will need to help drive the organisation towards this successful conclusion while understanding the needs of those for whom the therapies are unfortunately less successful.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan in collaboration with the Board.
  • The CEO will be responsible for the overall development and management of the Organisation.

·        Identify opportunities for innovation and growth that align with the organisation's mission and values. Whilst ensuring that we continue to remain an effective and much respected organisation.

 

  • Ensure the organisation remains focused on its goals and delivers measurable outcomes.

 

2. Governance and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary liaison between the Board and organisation's management ensuring that policies as set out by the board are implemented.
  • Be approachable and relatable. Our CEO will value the volunteer roots of the organisation and will respect and appreciate the contributions from volunteers, donors, partners, and employees across the country.
  • Ensure that CFI operates in compliance with Irish law, charity regulations, and best governance practices including but not limited to the Charities Regulator, The Companies Registration Office and Auditors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including funders, government bodies, partners, beneficiaries, and the broader community.
  • Representation of the organisation at key statutory bodies such as the National Clinical Programme for CF.
  • Making recommendations to the Board on organisation policy in all strategic and operational matters.

 

3. Team Management

  • Provide inspirational leadership to a diverse team, fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and professional development.
  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, and retention of staff to ensure the charity attracts and retains talented individuals.
  • Ensuring team compliance on policy and procedures and managing performance of those directly reporting to them.
  • Management of all contractors.

 

4. Fundraising and Financial Oversight

  • Develop and lead the charity's fundraising strategy, identifying fundraising opportunities.
  • Maintain financial oversight, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability and liaising with auditors.

 

5. Advocacy and Public Representation

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for CFI, effectively communicating its mission and impact to the public.
  • Advocate for the needs of beneficiaries, representing CFI's interests at national and local levels.
  • Develop a strong profile for CFI through media, social media, and public engagements.
  • Ability to research, write and coordinate key documents from which the Board of CFI and any subcommittee established can make decisions on policy, advocacy, research, services and budgeting/financial planning matters related to CFI and our work

 

Requirements

1. Leadership Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the non-profit or public sector, with a track record of delivering impactful results.
  • Experience working with a Board of Management or similar governance structure.
  • Ability to interact with senior clinicians and health officials on CF

 

2. Strategic Vision and Implementation

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful organisational strategies.
  • Proven capacity to balance long-term planning with day-to-day operational responsibilities.
  • Ability to make strategic alliances with statutory and non-statutory sectors to further the work of CFI

 

3. Financial Acumen

  • Strong understanding of budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation.
  • Experience in managing diverse funding sources.

 

4. Stakeholder Management and Communication

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with funders, partners, government officials, and community groups.
  • Comfortable acting as a public advocate, representing CFI in media, at events, and with policymakers.

 

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to travel as needed within Ireland and abroad.
  • Experience in the Irish charity sector is highly desirable.

  • Work-Life Balance: You'll typically work a 35-hour week, with flexibility for you and the organisation. Our head office is in Rathmines, Dublin. However, we are currently on a hybrid basis with time to be spent working remotely and at our national office.
