Support Worker Job description

Everything we do centres around making a difference to the lives of the people we serve. Houben House homeless family Hub is 'housing led'; our priority is to work closely with our service users to identify their strengths and address any potential barriers preventing them from availing of independent accommodation.

Houben House recognises that main desire of all our families is to have a 'forever home', hence our aim to re-house our families as soon as possible to prevent any potential institutionalisation. To help us do this, we have a team of exceptional specialist and support workers. There is now an opportunity to be a part of this inspiring team at Houben House.

The role of Support Worker is fundamental to the Salvation Army's desire to help our vulnerable clients achieve positive outcomes. Working with residents with a range of support needs, you will key work and provide general support to those in your care. You will be passionate, target driven, dynamic and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of services for vulnerable clients. You will also champion excellence in terms of ensuring our clients are central to our services and successful individual outcomes are achieved.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the main support needs which are commonly faced by homeless and vulnerable clients
  • Knowledge of the benefits system and an understanding of supported housing funding streams and reporting requirements
  • Experience of working with vulnerable clients in areas such as homelessness, addiction, mental health
  • Legislation and best practice relating to Health and Safety and safeguarding of clients and staff
  • Values of integrity and accountability within working practice
  • Ability to manage own work load and case load and ability to take the lead at meetings with external agencies.

Hours: 39 hours per week inc. occasional evenings and weekends
