What is Barnardos?

Barnardos supports children whose well -being is under threat, by working with them, their families and communities and by campaigning for the rights of children. Barnardos was established in Ireland in 1962 and is Ireland's leading children's charity.

What does the Communications Team do?

The Communications team works with all teams across Barnardos to co-ordinate all external communications – media, digital and campaigns. We manage Barnardos Press Office, PR and media relations. We are Barnardos voice online. We work to build Barnardos brand and increase awareness and understanding of Barnardos work with children and families.

What is our overall aim?

We aim to increase understanding and awareness of Barnardos work with children and families, to engage and grow support for Barnardos fundraising and advocacy activities and to maintain and protect Barnardos good reputation.

What will the Digital Communications Assistant do?

Supporting the Communications team with the updating and development of www.barnardos.ie. Supporting the team with administrative tasks. Supporting the Digital Executive with digital communications, scheduling and campaigns, including content creation in line with brand standards, testing, moderation, and reporting.

Job Description

Post:                           Digital Communications Assistant

Location:                    National Office, Christchurch Square, Dublin 8

Responsible to:       Communications Manager

Works with:                Internal and External Stakeholders

Job purpose

Supporting the Communications team with the updating and development of www.barnardos.ie. Supporting the team with administrative tasks. Supporting the Digital Executive with digital communications, scheduling and campaigns, including content creation in line with brand standards, testing, moderation, and reporting.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year's directly relevant experience essential.
  • Some experience with website maintenance highly desirable.
  • Experience in the adobe creative suite and or/ Canva desirable but not essential.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant third level qualification in multimedia or digital marketing desirable, but not essential.
  • Ability to write well including when under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).
  • Ability to create quality graphics.
  • Good project and time management skills.
  • Excellent competency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • An understanding of organic social media communications and paid campaigns.

 

The post-holder is initially assigned to work in the National Office, Dublin 8 and hybrid working but may be required in the future to work in other locations in the Dublin area in line with Organisational needs.
