About FoodCloud

FoodCloud has a vision for a world where no good food goes to waste, and the only thing bigger than our vision is our drive. We are an organisation of doers driven by kindness, fairness, and a desire to help people and the planet.

Would you like to join an organisation that is passionate about tackling food waste and increasing social inclusion in communities across Ireland and internationally? Are you an experienced UIUX lead designer who would like to work for one of Ireland's fastest-growing social enterprises? If this sounds like you, we have the ideal role here at FoodCloud.

We are working towards a goal of redistributing 1 billion meals that would have otherwise gone to landfill by 2030. We do this through our partnerships with food business and community organisations across Ireland, the UK, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Kenya with plans to expand to 9 other markets across Europe and Africa by 2030.

This role will report to the Head of Product but their responsibilities will cross multiple functions. 60% of the successful candidates' time will be spent building the vision for FoodCloud's food redistribution app and delivering strategic outcomes through user research and design. The other 40% of their time will be spent supporting projects across the Marketing and Internal Systems teams: from branding & marketing campaigns to system design.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Design Vision & Leadership

  • Build and articulate a compelling vision for our technology products' design that excites and energises customers and users.
  • Champion the user throughout product and technology decision-making, ensuring user needs remain central to how we design our systems.
  • Take full ownership of design delivery, from early discovery and concept development through to implementation.
  • Contribute to, maintain and evolve design principles, guides and systems, particularly for our proprietary technology products.
  • Build design capability and design thinking across the Product Development team, helping colleagues understand and apply user-centred design principles and advocating for high standards of UX across our technology.

2. User Research & Insight

  • Plan and conduct user research to support the scoping and development of initiatives across the product roadmap.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to understand user needs, behaviours and pain points, and embed these insights into design decisions.
  • Translate research findings into clear design opportunities and recommendations for the wider product team.

3. UX & Product Design

  • Clarify design goals, map user journeys and flows, prototype interactions, and work closely with engineers to ship polished product experiences.
  • Create simple, intuitive and engaging user experiences through the thoughtful design of software features, workflows and interactions.
  • Produce mock-ups, wireframes, prototypes and workflow maps to support collaboration with stakeholders and engineers on feature scope and design specifications.
  • Map and maintain complex processes and workflows in clear, actionable documentation.
  • Champion accessible and inclusive design, ensuring our products work effectively for users with different needs, capabilities, levels of digital confidence and operating contexts.

4. Product Collaboration & Delivery

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering and other stakeholders throughout discovery, design and delivery.
  • Contribute to shared outcome delivery across the Product Development team, supporting FoodCloud's ambition to enable 1 billion meals across 14 markets by 2030.
  • Facilitate alignment around user needs, design decisions and trade-offs, helping teams move from ambiguity to clear, deliverable solutions.

5. Digital Brand & Wider Design Support

  • Contribute to the design, ongoing development and optimisation of the FoodCloud website.
  • Maintain, develop and evolve FoodCloud's brand guidelines and digital assets.
  • Support the occasional development of internal and external branded materials, presentations and other design assets.
