Retina International (RI) is currently recruiting for a professional Membership Engagement Coordinator with relevant experience in a similar role.

 

Role summary:

The Membership Engagement Coordinator is a new and critical role within RI, which will assist in the delivery of our 2026-2030 strategic plan. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this is an excellent opportunity for the right person to progress their career in a fast-moving international organisation.

Overview:

  • Full-time role (35 hours per week)
  • Employment Type: One-year full-time contract
  • Competitive salary offered to the right candidate
  • Central office location in Dublin City
  • Hybrid role
  • Must be eligible to work in Ireland. We are not in a position to sponsor a visa for this role.
  • Occasional out of hours work will be required. Where requested, occasionally represent RI and its interests in external fora, including national and international events.

 

About Retina International:

RI is an innovative organisation. We are a global umbrella group with over 40 patient led member organisations comprising of foundations and charities based on all continents. The purpose of the organisation is to develop bespoke research programs that demonstrate the impact of retinal degenerative disease on those living with the conditions and their families, as well as the perspective of health care providers and innovators. RI works with all stakeholders to utilise published outputs from our bespoke large scale research studies to design global advocacy power tools highlighting the unmet need of the retinal community at large.

RI acts as a voice for those affected by rare and inherited as well as age-related and complex retinal diseases. We promote calls for equitable global access to diagnosis, social care, treatment and mental health support for all living with retinal degenerative diseases regardless of where they live.

Main duties:

Member Engagement & Relationship Support (Primary Focus)

  • Act as a central point of contact for RI members, supporting ongoing relationship-building and peer-to-peer connection.
  • Proactively engage with international members to understand their priorities, capacity, and needs, strengthening long-term collaboration.
  • Proactively engage with RI youth members to understand their priorities, capacity, and needs, strengthening long-term collaboration.
  • Support members in sharing their organisational updates, lived experience insights, and good practices across the RI network.
  • Maintain and update the RI membership contact database to ensure accurate records and meaningful segmentation.
  • Facilitate member participation in RI initiatives, consultations, working groups, RI advocacy groups and campaigns.

 

Community Building & Participation

  • Support the planning and delivery of member-facing webinars, podcasts, and online events to foster dialogue and shared learning.
  • Encourage cross-member collaboration by amplifying initiatives, partnerships, and joint advocacy efforts.
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new members, helping them navigate RI structures and opportunities for engagement.

 

Engagement-Focused Content & Digital Support

  • Support the coordination and updating of member-related content on the RI website to reflect network activity and achievements.
  • Assist with scheduling and publishing social media content that highlights member voices, initiatives, and milestones, ensuring accessibility.
  • Contribute to the growth and promotion of the RI YouTube channel, using in-house and member content
  • Coordinate the compilation and distribution of quarterly member newsletters as a platform for shared updates and contributions
  • Support Research team in compiling and distribution of the scientific newsletter
  • Support digital engagement efforts (e.g. website optimisation, social media interaction) to improve visibility and participation rather than reach alone
  • Ensure content across all platforms is accessible to all stakeholders

 

Brand, Campaign & Partnership Support

  • Support the consistent and accessible application of RI's brand across member-facing materials and engagement activities.
  • Contribute to integrated engagement campaigns across digital, print, and event channels, with a focus on member participation.
  • Work collaboratively with Foundation Fighting Blindness USA to support member engagement around the RIWC 2026 campaign.
  • Help ensure campaigns and initiatives provide clear opportunities for members to contribute, co-create, and take action.

 

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 3 years min experience working in a busy organisation
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (native or near-native speaker)
  • Creative mindset
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Multitasker
  • Familiar with digital trends and the current social media landscape
  • Must be capable of working both autonomously and within a small team
  • A self-starter with the ability to take direction and enjoys being part of an innovative team
  • Ability to produce quality materials within tight timeframes
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Interest in and understanding of the mission and values of RI

 

Essential IT Skills with proficiency in:

  • Mail distribution systems (e.g., Constant Contact, Mailchimp)
  • Social media management and scheduling (e.g., Hootsuite)
  • Design editing software (e.g., Canva)
  • CMS experience (e.g., WordPress)
  • Microsoft Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Adobe (e.g., Acrobat)
  • Zoom (e.g., setting up and managing webinars and meetings)

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Second language
  • Experience with the responsible use of AI within a secure business environment
  • Experience in survey platforms (e.g., SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics)
  • Experience with a project management system (e.g., Asana or Workday)
  • Podcast distribution (e.g., Spotify, Apple Podcasts)
