About Heart Children
Heart Children is the national organisation providing lifelong support to people born with
congenital heart disease (CHD) and their families. CHD is the most common birth defect globally
with an incidence of one in every 100 babies born worldwide. It arises when the structure of a
baby's heart does not develop correctly during pregnancy. Why it happens is yet unknown and there
is no cure, only a series of fixes. The child born with CHD will often have to endure a lifetime of
For more than three decades, Heart Children has been at the heart of a community of over 20,000
people living with CHD across Ireland - offering vital emotional, practical, and advocacy support
from childhood through adulthood. We receive no government funding and rely on support from member
families, one-off grant funding and the generosity of the general public to generate our annual income.
The Opportunity
Heart Children is seeking a proactive, relationship-focused individual to lead income development in a role that blends elements of fundraising, business development, and strategic partnership building. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys networking, spotting opportunities, and driving growth through meaningful connections.
You will identify and cultivate relationships with businesses, individuals, and partners that can help generate vital income for Heart Children. Whether through corporate engagement or supporting key campaigns and events, your focus will be on growing support for our mission in a sustainable, strategic way.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and Manage Revenue-Generating Relationships
Proactively identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with corporate partners to maximise
opportunities for cause-related marketing, sponsorship, and employee engagement opportunities that
generate revenue for Heart Children.
• Drive Strategic Events and Partnerships
Create and present compelling partnership proposals, represent Heart Children at networking events,
and actively seek opportunities to develop mutually beneficial collaborations that deliver revenue.
• Complete Grant Applications
Take responsibility for applying for funding and grants that Heart Children will be eligible for
across any given year.
• Support the Delivery of High-Impact Fundraising Events
Contribute to the conception, planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising events.
• Leverage Data for Relationship Building
Use the HubSpot database to accurately record interactions and support segmented communications to
inform stewardship strategies.
• Provide Exceptional Supporter Care
Ensure every donor and supporter receives a bespoke and meaningful experience that fosters
long-term loyalty and support.
• Be a Visible Advocate for Heart Children
Actively represent Heart Children in the community and on social media channels, in line with our
vision, mission and values.
• Uphold Ethical Fundraising Standards
Adhere to best practice fundraising guidelines ensuring all fundraising activity is transparent and ethical.
• Team Player
Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating initiative,
creativity, and a solutions-focused mindset.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications, experience, and core
competencies:
Education and Training
• Minimum 3 years experience working in a similar role or in a business development role.
Experience in the voluntary or community sector is a distinct advantage.
• Demonstrated success in identifying and building new business or donor relationships.
• Skilled in developing and delivering compelling proposals and presentations.
• Experience in managing supporter/donor journeys to increase engagement.
Desirable:
• Relevant third-level qualification.
• Proficient in using CRM systems, donor databases, and content management systems.
Competencies:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and networking abilities with a natural flair for relationship building.
• Results-driven with a clear focus on meeting income goals and fundraising targets.
• Highly organised, able to prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to changing needs and opportunities.
• Strong project management and co-ordination skills.
• Comfortable using Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) and database systems.
• Understanding of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and experience engaging with corporate partners
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
• Full driving licence and access to personal transport is essential.
