Pieta is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic financial professional who wants to make a real difference in Irish society. Pieta was established in 2006 to help people affected by suicide. Pieta works with over 7000 clients every year who are at risk of suicide or engage in self-harm or have been bereaved by suicide. We work with children, adolescents and adults providing a range of services in person and virtual.

Among our 300-strong staff base, we employ over 200 therapists who provide intervention and counselling services to people experiencing suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm, or those who need bereavement counselling.

Location: Pieta Administration Office, Tallaght, Dublin 24 / hybrid work options 

Position Type: Full-time permanent position (Mon-Fri 9 am-5pm) and full-time Interim Cover post available 

Salary: €90,000 - €100,000 per annum

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance and Business Performance will lead the development and strategic direction of the finance function, operational performance and governance for Pieta. You will also collaborate with senior colleagues and stakeholders to oversee the growth and future sustainability of Pieta and the delivery of the Pieta strategic plan.

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead and manage Pieta's Finance, operations performance & governance to the highest level of efficiency, effectiveness and accountability and be proactive in the development of funding and financial opportunities
  • Take an active role in the strategic management and development of Pieta as a member of the Leadership Team
  • Establish and promote finance policies and practices that underpin Pieta's culture and vision and support the development of policies and practices across the organisation where required
  • Develop, drive, and manage the implementation of the finance and performance business plan as part of Pieta's overall strategic plan
  • Provide updates to the Board, Finance Audit & Risk Committee and Leadership team on key financial and business performance
  • Lead staff effectively ensuring they receive appropriate supervision and support; their appropriate development needs are met and relevant records are maintained
  • Provide analysis, insights and enhancements to Pieta's financial and key performance areas
  • Provide effective leadership and management of the Finance, IT, and Governance to ensure the development and implementation of strategies and effective practices across all operational areas

 

Finance & Governance:

Deliver a complete and efficient finance function to assist Pieta with achieving its strategic targets

  • Business Decision Support – Oversee the Finance team in providing accurate, timely and relevant information on financial and business performance to the leadership team. Use Financial information to make recommendations to the Leadership Team where appropriate
  • Financial Reporting – Oversee the production of financial statements under FRS102 and SORP2015; optimising month-end close process; managing all aspects of revenue recognition and technical accounting implications within Pieta
  • Budgeting and Forecasting – Provide accurate information and analysis for Board reporting; work with the leadership team to devise and implement the annual budget and a three-year plan
  • Costs – support the devolved budgeting process and provide continuous focus on cost control
  • Risk & Controls – working closely with the Director of Quality and Risk continuously monitoring the risk profile and internal control environment to identify weaknesses/control gaps for escalation to the leadership team and the board. Ensure a robust financial control environment to safeguard Pieta's assets
  • Audit & Compliance – Manage the day-to-day financial, regulatory and taxation matters of Pieta, ensuring compliance with all requirements – audit, tax, regulatory, legal and banking
  • Act as the key point of contact for the External and Internal auditors managing contracts and acting as liaison with the Risk Audit and Finance committee
  • Pension Scheme – In co-operation with the Director of Human Resources oversee the Pieta Defined Contribution Pension Scheme and review its annual financial statements
  • Investment Management – Optimize Pieta's investments in accordance with the Board's investment policy
  • Lead the production of the annual reporting and annual financial statements process for Pieta
  • Work with the CEO to support the Board governance operations and compliance with the CRO and CRA

 

Performance & Change:

Work with the CEO and leadership management team to develop and deliver operational capacity, capability and efficiency & effectiveness:

  • Planning - Coordinate operational planning and delivery by supporting the leadership team to deliver on annual operational objectives / targets
  • KPI reporting – Play an active role in the management of the operational performance of the business through daily/weekly/monthly reporting; challenging performance and driving positive change
  • Processes & Systems – Further develop reporting processes and financial systems, driving continuous improvement of finance processes and systems including the enhancement of functionality of our ERP system (Salesforce)
  • Policies & Procedures - Develop operational policies, procedures and processes and ensure they are followed
  • IT – working with the Director of Quality and Risk to ensure the overall IT capabilities are appropriate to meet the developing needs of Pieta
  • Vendor Management – oversee and manage key vendor relationships and ensure key governance registers are kept up to date
  • Change Management - Support the analysis and development of change management strategies to enable successful project deliverables

 

Person Specification:

The position is required to influence strategy in areas of responsibility to ensure innovation in administrative systems to enhance the efficiency of the organisation. Significant responsibility in delegated areas is conferred on this position to ensure that administratively the department operates in accordance with and complies with a range of Pieta policies and procedures and meets the demands of a diverse, high-level group of stakeholders.

The Director of Finance & Performance is an active member of the Pieta Executive Leadership team. The role requires the incumbent to exercise adaptive leadership, professional expertise, and management skills to ensure successful project and program delivery. The incumbent will be required to undertake a wide range of tasks and work across a diverse stakeholder group, interacting effectively with Executive Directors, Clinical Managers and Pieta Board Trustees. The position requires the incumbent to work with a broad range of issues relevant to the operation of the organisation and to be creative and responsive to challenges that will arise with extremely tight timelines.

Problem Solving & Judgement:

This position requires high-level strategic planning, conceptual, analytical and complex problem-solving skills to adapt new concepts and opportunities and implement appropriate solutions. Exceptional stakeholder management skills are required to align competing needs and priorities with the strategic goals of the organisation. The capacity to integrate a range of internal and external policies and strategies to achieve objectives in a complex environment is essential. 

Organisational Knowledge:

The Director of Finance and Business Performance must maintain a sound understanding of the mission of Pieta, of Pieta policies and standards, and be alert to the broader issues relevant to the areas of responsibility. The incumbent is expected to have a high degree of computer literacy and well-developed skills in the use of spreadsheets, databases, accounting packages and web-based systems.

Resource Management:

The position will be responsible for working with the CEO and Directors to manage program and organisational budgets.

Essential Criteria:

  • A CIMA/ACCA qualified accountant with at least 7 years post qualifying experience
  • A strong strategic leader with proven capability in an organisation of significant complexity and scale
  • Experience in change management and successful project execution
  • Qualification/experience in corporate governance advantageous in this role with skills to lead, develop and manage at senior level, demonstrating excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Demonstrated capability to think broadly, considering a wide range of internal and external factors when solving problems
  • Proven capacity to manage and develop teams of people from a range of technical backgrounds in high-performing, dynamic environments
  • Champion collaborative working and demonstrate the ability to drive change
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage at a very senior level with a strong track record of stakeholder management
  • Demonstrated experience/understanding of the role of a Board of Directors and corporate governance
  • Significant IT and reporting skills
  • Flexibility: demonstrable experience in structuring workload and conflicting demands comfortable managing the multiple dimensions of the role
  • Working knowledge of the charity, not-for-profit sector and SORP2015
  • Ambitious with a high level of energy and an exceptional work ethic
