Established in Ireland in 2021, the Free Wills Network connects participating charities with a nationwide panel of solicitors who provide Will-writing services to supporters at no cost to them.
For charities, the Free Wills Network model is straightforward and effective. Organisations promote the offer to their target audience (often their most loyal donors) who are then referred to the Network. Supporters receive an information pack and can choose a local solicitor to write or update a simple Will. The charity pays a fixed, discounted fee for this service, removing financial barriers for supporters while creating a natural opportunity to consider leaving a legacy gift.
Importantly, there is no obligation for supporters to include a charitable gift, but many choose to do so. In fact, evidence from the Network shows that a significant proportion, over 80%, of Wills written include a legacy, making it a reliable and measurable source of future income.
The programme is designed to give charities full control over their marketing and stewardship, allowing them to target communications effectively while tracking results. With over €1 million in pledged income, the Network has proven to be a powerful tool for converting supporters into committed legacy pledgers.
Overall, the Free Wills Network offers charities a simple, low-risk way to grow their legacy pipeline, strengthen supporter relationships, and secure long-term, sustainable funding.
