Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) is a national charity that addresses dying, death and bereavement in Ireland. Our vision is an Ireland where people facing end of life or bereavement, and those who care for them, are provided with the care and support that they need.

Through advocacy and education, and the provision of services such as Nurses for Night Care and the Bereavement Support Line and our national programmes such as Hospice Friendly Hospitals, Dying Well at Home and Caru – Supporting Care & Compassion at End of Life in Nursing Homes, Adult Bereavement Programme and Irish Childhood Bereavement Network, IHF works to ensure that every person in Ireland can die and grieve well, whatever their age and wherever the place. 

About the Role

Job Purpose: Working closely with the National and Regional Caru team, and as a part of the wider Healthcare team, you will be responsible for projects that support and enhance the programme elements. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day to day running of our programme.. This will include providing project and event management support; administrative support; and practical operational support.

Salary: €37,338 - €43,927 per annum depending on experience.

Contract Type: 2.5 year Fixed Term Contract

Job Location: Our offices are based on Nassau St., Dublin 2. We have a hybrid work model in place (a minimum requirement of 2 days a week in the office).

Reporting to: Caru Programme Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Support the set-up project management structures and processes that support the Caru management team.
  • Ensure that the Caru Programme is supported by clear workplans that monitor progress and assess whether work is on-track against key performance indicators and metrics.
  • Introduce project management processes, methods, tools, guidelines and standards to establish an effective framework for project delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with the Caru Programme Manager, Development Officer and Programme Administrator to meet the programme objectives
  • Support the work of the Caru Oversight group - Contribute to planning of meetings, collection of data, work project and work planning etc.
  • Coordinate the management of the working groups, associated workstreams and all projects that are commenced as part of the Caru programme, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Support the production of resource materials to support the Caru Workshops.
  • Support the work of the Caru Oversight group - Contribute to planning of meetings, collection of data, work project and work planning etc.
  • Support the development and organisation of the Caru Workshops.
  • Support the development and management of the networks- regional and national.
  • Build and maintain internal and key external relationships to maximise impact of work.
  • Support the monitoring of the Caru risk register, working closely with the Caru programme Manager.
  • Support the work of the learning platform in conjunction with AIIHPC.
  • Provide support and routine updates of work to line manager, including generating reports, information materials, abstract proposals, and articles to support dissemination of work.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders-HSE, AIIHPC, NHI, Hospices and Specialist Palliative Care Teams, Older persons services etc HFH champions and End of Life Care committees in HFH hospitals.
  • Respond to queries and information requests from Programme Partners.
  • Represent the work of IHF at external fora as required.
  • Scope further development and growth opportunities for the Caru Programme, in close collaboration with Regional Leads, Project Development Officer and Programme Manager.
  • Support project management across other aligned programmes within the IHF Healthcare directorate, as required.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures, in line with IHF policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience

IHF is open to applications from candidates who have experience in most but not all of the following areas. The successful candidate will be supported through their induction to increase their knowledge and ability to deliver on the responsibilities outlined here. Further training and ongoing support will be available.

  • Degree in Health related discipline or equivalent work experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in working on complex programmes, ideally in a healthcare environment.
  • Two years' experience in service development, quality improvement initiatives and project management.
  • Good understanding of the relevance of excellence in end-of-life care, and strong appreciation of the challenges and issues related to dying, death and bereavement, for patients, families and staff.
  • Good working knowledge of the relevant HSE clinical care programmes; acute, residential and primary care health structures; professional organisations and patient groups which are instrumental in the delivery of services for people with life limiting disease and those approaching End of Life.
  • Ability to plan, organise and develop a project, to work independently and to deadlines, with some flexibility around working hours.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office and managing contact lists, data management and CRM's, specifically Salesforce.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathetic attitude and a keenness to work as a member of a team.
